GOVINDA'S SHOCK ACCIDENT: DAUGHTER TINA AHUJA REVEALS THE EMOTIONAL TOLL

THE TRAUMA: TAKING GOVINDA TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER THE GUNSHOT

The nation was stunned last October by the news that beloved Bollywood actor Govinda, affectionately known as Chi Chi, had been involved in a serious accident. While preparing for an early morning trip, a licensed revolver accidentally slipped from his hand at his Mumbai residence, resulting in a bullet wound to his left knee.

The actor was immediately rushed to Criticare Hospital by his daughter, Tina Ahuja, where he underwent emergency surgery to remove the bullet. Though Govinda was discharged a few days later to recover at home, the intense experience had a profound emotional impact on his family. A video of Tina breaking down in tears as her father left the hospital was widely circulated, leaving many to wonder about the turmoil behind the scenes.

Now, in a candid interview, Tina Ahuja has opened up about the traumatic day and explained why her tears were not those of sorrow, but of profound relief.

“A TEAR OF VICTORY”: THE ICU FIGHT

When asked about the emotional moment of her father’s discharge, Tina explained that her tears were a moment of triumph following intense prayer and worry. “That was a tear of victory at that time,” she shared, “Because I had literally prayed so much to God at that time.”

The sudden severity of the situation immediately placed the actor in the ICU. Tina vividly recalled the anxiety of seeing her father confined to the hospital bed.

“First he was in the ICCU and I was sleeping down and then he was shifted to the ICU,” she recalled. The added stress came from Govinda’s aversion to medical treatment. The actor, whom Tina described as very “finicky” and “desi” (traditional), struggled with the tubes, drips, and antibiotics. Seeing her father battle the entire situation—not just the wound, but the necessary medical intervention—was difficult. “When a person is fighting that struggle of, ‘What do I do now, how do I deal with this now’… And I was literally sleeping down in the ICU and I wanted him to be back,” she said.

THE TRAUMATIC TRIP TO THE HOSPITAL

Tina revealed she was the person who took the lead in getting her father to the hospital, an experience made all the more shocking by the visual reality of the injury.

Govinda was about to leave for an early morning flight to an event in Calcutta when the accident happened. The sheer volume of blood was staggering, a detail Tina likened to a scene from one of his films.

“The white jeans that he was wearing—white pants, white jeans, and a white t-shirt and a jacket—that whole white jeans was completely red,” she recounted.

In the moment, Tina told her father, “Papa, this is all thanks to all your movies,” referencing his signature resilience and courage. She praised him for having the strength to fight back and make it to the hospital, adding, “I know how I took him there.”

For Tina, the sight of her father finally leaving the hospital healthy and happy was an overwhelming release of tension. “It was just that, you know, tears of joy. ‘Thank you God, he’s back.’ That’s all it was,” she emphasized, acknowledging her own emotional nature.

The actor is now fully recovered and ready to resume his career, set to make his comeback on the silver screen after six years with the film Duniyadari. The Ahuja family’s focus on showbiz continues, with Govinda’s wife, Ssunita Ahuja, starting her own YouTube vlog channel, and their son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, soon making his anticipated Bollywood debut.
