SAMSUNG LAUNCHES PERPLEXITY AI APP: BRINGING GENERATIVE AI TO THE BIG SCREEN

INTUITIVE INTERFACE: VOICE, KEYBOARD, AND GLANCEABLE CARDS

Samsung has introduced a groundbreaking feature for its 2025 smart TVs: the Perplexity TV app, which officially brings powerful generative AI technology directly to the television screen for the first time. This launch marks Perplexity AI’s debut on any TV platform, fundamentally changing how users interact with their entertainment centers and seek information. The app is deeply integrated into Samsung’s ecosystem, functioning seamlessly through the Vision AI Companion, allowing users to ask questions and receive sophisticated, real-time answers without needing to reach for a phone, tablet, or separate device.

A core strength of the Perplexity TV app is its commitment to accuracy. It delivers real-time responses that are directly sourced from credible and verified references, offering an interactive research experience specifically designed for a large, shared TV screen. This shifts the television from being a passive display device to an active, information-driven hub.

How the Perplexity TV App Transforms the User Experience

Accessing the generative AI is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly. Users can start their journey by opening the Perplexity app from the main Apps tab or by engaging the ‘Vision AI Companion’ using the dedicated AI button on their remote.

Upon first use, the app requires users to review and accept its terms and conditions. For those who wish to harness the convenience of hands-free interaction, granting microphone access is necessary to enable voice commands.

The app supports multiple input methods to accommodate diverse user preferences. Queries can be entered by typing using the on-screen keyboard, connecting a standard USB keyboard, or speaking directly into the remote using its voice button.

Once a question is posed—whether it’s a quick fact like “Who directed the latest Avengers movie?” or a recommendation such as “Recommend Halloween films”—Perplexity swiftly searches verified sources and presents the answers in real time. The answers are presented as easy-to-digest, glanceable cards that are visually optimized for the television screen. Each response card includes a concise summary, clear documentation of its sources, and a list of suggested follow-up questions to encourage deeper exploration.

This interactive format allows users to refine their search easily by selecting follow-up questions directly on the screen, asking new, related questions, or requesting more detailed information on a specific point. Furthermore, the app is designed to be an integral part of the entertainment ecosystem; depending on the support of other installed applications, users can interact with links, launching related apps, or jumping directly to streaming services. The ability to save content for later use is also included, enhancing its utility as a research tool. It is crucial to note that an active and stable internet connection is required for the app to deliver these real-time, sourced results.

Ryan Foutty, Perplexity’s vice president of business, commented on the vision behind the launch, emphasizing the app’s potential to integrate knowledge-seeking into daily life. He highlighted that “curiosity can strike at any time,” underscoring the app’s goal of seamlessly connecting the efficiency of traditional search with the dynamic interface of modern AI, right where families gather.

Availability and Exclusive Launch Offer

The Perplexity TV App is currently available for all 2025 Samsung smart TV models. Samsung has also announced plans to extend this availability to the 2023 and 2024 TV models later this year through a comprehensive software update, ensuring that a broad base of users can access the new AI capabilities.

As an attractive launch promotion, Samsung TV users can claim a free 12-month subscription to Perplexity Pro. This premium offering can be unlocked simply by scanning the QR code that is displayed on the TV app interface.

Samsung TV users can now leverage AI-driven answers and interactive research features directly on their biggest screen. However, as with all generative AI tools, users are advised to verify information, and those opting for voice controls must be aware that microphone access is mandatory. This partnership between Samsung and Perplexity marks a significant step forward in integrating advanced artificial intelligence into the home entertainment experience.
